St Modwen Properties, which Scottish Courage has just appointed to develop its Home Brewery site in Arnold, on the outskirts of Nottingham, has sparked controversy in the town with its plan for a supermarket on part of the 6.88ha (17 acre) site.
St Modwen’s chief executive, Richard Frogatt, has confirmed that the company wants to build a 6,039 sq m (65,000 sq ft) superstore at Home Brewery. The rest of the site would be redeveloped as offices and industrial space with a pub/restaurant and fast food outlet.
But local authority Gedling Borough Council opposes the scheme on the grounds that it would adversely affect Arnold town centre.
Scottish Courage announced the closure of its Home Brewery site nine months ago.
