St Modwen teams up with Macclesfield Town FC

St Modwen has entered into an agreement with Macclesfield Town Football Club to deliver a new stadium for the League Two side.

The Midlands-based property company is behind plans to develop a mixed-use scheme on a 130-acre area of the Cheshire town, known as the South Macclesfield Development Area.

The proposed 7,000-seat stadium would incorporate a conference centre and a sports and leisure complex.

Macclesfield Town FC, known as the Silkmen, has played its home games at the 6,300-capacity Moss Rose stadium on the town’s London Road since 1891.

Macclesfield Town chairman, Mike Rance said: “Our ambitious plans to create a new home for the Silkmen have taken a big step forward with the announcement of this partnership. St Modwen is the ideal partner for a project that we hope will not only meet the needs of the club, but will also bring substantial benefits for the local community.”

Michelle Taylor, regional director at St Modwen, said: “We will be working hard to bring forward inspiring proposals which reflect the vision of the club and the local community.”
