St Modwen to build housing-led scheme in Gloucestershire

St Modwen has been selected by South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) as preferred development partner for a housing-led scheme on a 92-acre (37ha) site in Dursley, Gloucestershire.

SWRDA has earmarked the site for 600 homes, offices and shops.

The offices will house the site’s tenants, insurance company AXA, diesel engine maker Lister-Petter and sheep shearing equipment maker Lister Sheering.

SWRDA acquired the site from Lister-Petter for £15m in 2000 as part of a plan to help secure the future of the loss-making company.

David Cockroft, St Modwen’s development surveyor, said that the development would “pick up the theme of the urban village for the millennium-style community”.

St Modwen and SWRDA will submit plans for the site in early 2003.

St Modwen has appointed Halcrow to plan the development and Stephen George & Partners as architects.
