St Modwen has unveiled initial plans for the £100m regeneration of two sites in Bognor Regis town centre as part of the pre-planning public consultation.
The developer has prepared proposals for a mixed-use regeneration scheme which includes 200,000 sq ft of leisure and retail, 50,000 sq ft of community facilities, 30,000 sq ft of offices and around 300 residential units in the
Initial ideas presented include an extensively landscaped promenade with a small lido pool, cafes and restaurants – including an iconic ‘Building on the Beach’ – a film, arts and live performance venue, outdoor performance space, a bowling alley, new retail offices, a relocated library and a new health centre.
Gary Morris, senior development manager of St Modwen, said: “Our aim is to create a year round destination to enhance the day-to-day experiences of both residents and visitors.
“We firmly believe that our proposals will contribute to the wider regeneration programme being pursued by the Council and their partners at various other sites around the town centre.
“Our ideas are starting to take shape and following feedback from this first public consultation, we feel confident that we can work towards a robust planning application later this year.”
St Modwen will present more detailed designs on all aspects of the proposals to the community in late spring or early summer and it is anticipated that a planning application will be submitted in autumn 2008.
