St Modwen unveils Farnborough plans

The Meads, Farnborough

St Modwen has unveiled its plans for the residential element of its £80m regeneration of Farnborough town centre.

The Centrus at The Meads development comprises 100 flats at the 14-acre site in the centre of the Hampshire town.

The scheme also includes 180,000 sq ft of shops and a 50,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s supermarket, 34,000 sq ft of leisure, including a Gala Bingo hall, a 77-bedroom Travelodge, an eight-screen Vue Cinemas multiplex.

St Modwen Properties secured final consent for the scheme in May of last year, ending a 10-year battle to bring forward the contentious scheme.

It was first drawn up in 1998, when the jv bought the Kingsmead and Queensmead sites in the town centre.

Bill Oliver, chief executive of St Modwen Properties, said: “This is a very exciting time for St Modwen and Farnborough town centre.

“The project is breathing new life in to the heart of this town; it is the very essence of sustainable development offering local residents a fantastic opportunity to secure a high-quality home with a wide range of amenities on their doorstep.”
