St Modwen wins Firepool consent

Firepool2.jpgSt Modwen has been granted detailed planning consent for the first phase of its £270m Firepool scheme in Taunton, Somerset.

It will comprise a 27,000 sq ft headquarters office for UK-based recycling, renewable energy and waste management company Viridor.

The phase will form part of wider plans to transform the 4.5-acre Priory Bridge Road car park, beside the River Tone, into 113,000 sq ft of office space, a hotel and 49 flats. In January, St Modwen secured planning consent to deliver enhancement works around the river, including a park on the car park area.

Work will begin on site this summer with a view to completing the facility by summer 2012.

St Modwen is Taunton Deane council’s development partner for the £270m project. Firepool is the first phase of Project Taunton, a 123-acre town centre regeneration scheme, which the company is developing in partnership with the council.

Pete Davies, development manager for St Modwen, said: “Discussions are also ongoing with other potential occupiers who can see the advantages of locating to the development, which offers an attractive riverside setting within close proximity to the town centre and the main railway station.”
