Stakis to spend £14m gambling on casinos

Stakis is going ahead with a £14m investment in its casino division with refits of sites at Hull, Leeds and Birmingham.

The company is also proceeding with an £85m refit of the London Metropole, a move designed to make it the biggest conference hotel in Europe. It is planning to expand its hotel division gradually and roll out new restaurants and health clubs.

Stakis recently put eight of its worst-performing hotels in England and Scotland on the market. Four sales are understood to be in the hand of solicitors but it is struggling to sell the other properties.
