Stamp duty winners and losers

Homebuyers in prime areas of London and the southeast will have to pay an additional £220m in stamp duty each year following last week’s reforms.

An in-depth analysis by Savills for the Sunday Times shows that homebuyers in 15 local authorities across England and Wales will pay more stamp duty under the reformed system.

But, perversely, the region will also see some of the biggest falls. Waltham Forest is the biggest winner in the according to the data, with falls of £2107 per purchase. Epsom an Ewell comes a close second with £2096.

Of the additional £220m raised, £157m will be in Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.
