Standard Chartered’s headquarters in the City of London are set for a refurbishment, part of an initiative mapped out by landlord Zeno Capital when the bank re-signed its lease last year.
The City of London Corporation has just signed off proposals for the refurbishment of the 11-storey, 200,000 sq ft 1 Basinghall Avenue, EC2.
The Stiff + Trevillion-designed refurb will include revamping the entrance and adding a new rooftop terrace. The basement to second floor will be refurbished, along with the roof level, while Standard Chartered remains in occupation, but upgrades to “core areas” will include the bank’s other floors, according to the planning application.
“Whilst the existing building is of high quality and within its serviceable life, [Zeno Capital] aspires to reposition the building’s environmental impact and sustainability credentials to offer top-tier sustainable office space to fulfil the expectations of current market demands and attract a vibrant tenant profile within this prime London location,” said the architecture firm in planning documents.
The firm said the refurbishment will follow circular economy principles, retaining the maximum amount of embodied carbon while repositioning the building’s environmental and sustainable credentials delivering an all-electric [mechanical and electrical] strategy.
“The designs seek to improve the office accommodation whilst extending the usable life of the building through the delivery of high-quality office space to meet modern occupational demands.”
