Stanhope gets consent for Hereford scheme

Herefordshire council has granted outline planning permission for Stanhope’s £80m retail and leisure scheme in Hereford.

The approved plans to redevelop the 310,000 sq ft livestock market include a six-screen ODEON cinema, an 85,000 sq ft department store, a 25,000 sq ft Waitrose store and 60,000 sq ft of additional retail and leisure.

Following the anticipated submission of reserved matters later this year, Stanhope plans to start work early next year and complete it in autumn 2013.

The scheme is part of Herefordshire council’s wider regeneration programme, which includes a new livestock market on the nearby Roman Road, a flood alleviation scheme, plans to rejuvenate the city’s well-known Buttermarket into a showcase venue for local products and the creation of an urban village of around 800 homes.

Alistair Shaw of Stanhope said: “We are delighted with Herefordshire council’s planning committee decision. Over the past three years, Stanhope and our wider team have lived and breathed this project, and we feel that the application now approved by the council will bring Hereford the first rate leisure and retail facilities it deserves.”
