Stanhope hires from Landsec to lead on ESG

Stanhope has hired the director who mapped out Landsec’s net zero carbon strategy as its head of environmental, social and governance.

Nils Rage will join Stanhope as head of ESG in May. He has spent the past three years at Landsec, where he was sustainable design and innovation manager.

Rage told EG that he hopes to “build upon and galvanise” Stanhope’s ESG and sustainability activities.

“ESG momentum has never been stronger, but considerable action is needed to address the global challenges we’re facing,” he added.

Stanhope chief executive David Camp said: “As an active developer and operator of built environment assets, we always aim to positively contribute to society and the environment. Stanhope has recently updated its ESG strategy and Nils will now oversee the evolution and implementation of this across the whole business, from large-scale development projects such as 8 Bishopsgate and White City Place, to other company activity such as the Stanhope Foundation and our climate change agenda.”

At Landsec, Rage focused on sustainability across the FTSE 100 REIT’s office and mixed-use development pipeline as well as existing assets. He also led the development of the company’s net zero carbon strategy ahead of its commitment to becoming a net zero carbon business by 2030.

Rage was involved in plans for Landsec’s Timber Square redevelopment at 25 Lavington Street, SE1, at which a quarter of the existing building will be retained, construction materials recycled and timber used extensively.

Discussing the project with EG last year, Rage said: “We as an industry have a huge role to play in tackling the climate crisis that we are facing. We are working towards a net zero carbon future by 2050 as part of the pathway that out country has taken and we at Landsec want to really play a leadership role in addressing that.”
