Stanhope has been selected as preferred developer for the first phase of the £900m regeneration of Hereford city centre.

The group beat shortlisted rivals Centros Miller and Modus to the project which comprises a £210m retail-led mixed-use scheme on a 12.5-acre former cattle market site in the town centre.

The site was released for development in December after Herefordshire council decided that the historic cattle market should be relocated to Griffiths Field, towards the north-west of the town.

The land, where the council wants 350,000 sq ft of shops and leisure including a major department store, alongside 200 houses and a car park, forms part of a 100-acre town centre regeneration project.

ESG Hereford, the regeneration company established by Herefordshire council and Advantage West Midlands, has been advised in the selection process by Montagu Evans.
