David Cameron’s ‘starter home’ initiative could be scrapped after prime minister Boris Johnson ordered his cabinet to cull the pet projects of his predecessors.
Ministers have been instructed to go through spending line by line and send the Treasury suggestions for “sacred cows” that could be “slaughtered”.
It is likely that hundreds of legacy initiatives, some dating back to the coalition government, could be scrapped to allow the focus to be on “levelling up the country”.
It is widely believed that David Cameron’s ‘starter home’ initiative to sell first-time homes at a discount and elements of HS2 could be casualties of the review.
