Estates Gazette visited Sheffield Hallam University’s Built Environment Employers’ Day last month to interview students, employers and academic staff about the prospects for the next generation of property professionals.
Students packed into the lecture hall to hear EG editor Damian Wild offer his view on what employers want from graduates.
Jones Lang LaSalle, DTZ and Lambert Smith Hampton were present. CB Richard Ellis HR director Simon Woodhams said that he wanted to see graduates “with a sense of purpose and ambition”, adding: “We really want people who are business people who just happen to know a lot about commercial property and how it operates.”
Sheffield Hallam’s Basil Daffalla was one of many students seeking feedback from employers about “how to apply for their graduate schemes”.
