Sterling Capitol is seeking planning permission to create a mixed-use scheme topped by a 20-storey glass tower on the site of two rundown 1970s office blocks to the west of Leeds city centre.
Planners are keen to see the two three-storey, flat-roofed buildings, Bridge House and Compton House, replaced by a modern scheme that will make use of the prominent site between Coppergate and Westgate.
Sterling Capitol’s proposals would create 200 flats above offices with leisure facilities at ground floor level and a basement car park.
The 20-storey tower would step down to 10 storeys at the northern boundary.
The site lies within the area defined as Leeds’ prime office quarter in the Unitary Development Plan.
Leeds’ development control committee has deferred a decision on the scheme until Sterling Capitol provides more detailed proposals.
