Haulage firm Eddie Stobart aims to create a 92,900 sq m (1m sq ft) European Logistics Centre on 20.23 ha (50 acres) at Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, Northamptonshire.
The Carlisle-based firm is negotiating to take another 10.11ha (25 acres) for a second 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) warehouse distribution complex. The firm’s first phase, comprising 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) in three warehouses on freehold land, is due for completion in September.
Commercial manager Richard Butcher said it was hoped to conclude negotiations within six months, but it was not known yet whether the land for the second phase would be purchased freehold or leased.
Stobart will be the first occupier at the 147ha (364 acre) DIRFT complex, which is adjacent to the West Coast Main Line and three miles south of the M1, M6 and A14 intersection. It is being developed by Severn Trent subsidiary Abbcott Estates, funded by Hermes Property Asset Management.
Stobart has also announced that it is considering running its own nightly train between Glasgow and DIRFT within five years, to create an “M6 bypass.”
Grimley is advising Stobart. Agents for DIRFT are Jones Lang Wootton, Baker Rose and Hawkins & Harrison.
