Plans for a £2bn road tunnel near Stonehenge could be axed after the Treasury said it was bad value for money.
The scheme, which is a pet-favourite of Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, would relieve a notorious bottleneck on the A303, a key arterial route from London to the south-west.
Sources within the Treasury say that motorists should just use the M4 and M5 instead.
