Store closures at record high as retailers respond to online growth

The number of shop closures has reached record highs amid a string of retail restructurings and as big chains scramble to adapt to the rise of online shopping.
Sixteen stores a day shut their doors in the first half of this year, resulting in 1,234 net closures, according to figures by PWC and the Local Data Company. The net decline is the highest level since the survey began in 2010, with twice as many shops shutting than opening.
