Strong estuary hub support hint

David Cameron has given his strongest signal to date of his support for a Thames estuary airport hub.

The prime minister admitted for the first time the South East lacked sufficient airport capacity. He said new capacity was needed to stay competitive and he would not be content for London to become a feeder for bigger airports elsewhere in the world. He said he retained “an open mind” on all possibilities for enlarging capacity in the South East, which stoked speculation the government might have a change of heart on a new runway at Heathrow. The Times says it understands the government review of aviation policy will be delayed until after the mayoral elections in May to boost current mayor Boris Johnson’s chance of re-election.
