The auctions market saw a 16% jump in lots offered last month, which helped to keep the total raised on a par with the same period a year ago.
Sales in October raised £300m, a downward drift of only 0.3%, according to data from Essential Information Group.
Looking at the quarterly and yearly comparisons, lots offered and amount raised all increased, with the quarterly lots offered up by 13%.
After a disappointing September, the residential sector put in a stronger performance. Year-on-year, the number of lots offered was up 23% at 2,400 and the total raised was up 4.6% to £273.9m.
The number of commercial lots offered was down by 30% year on year at 208 lots. However, this is not unusual as October is usually a quiet month for commercial lots as the two major commercial auctioneers do not generally hold auctions in October.
The regional figures show a wide variance in performance with Yorkshire and The Humber seeing a 51% increase in the number of lots sold and a 26% increase in the amount raised.
Other regions enjoying double digit growth in these two metrics include the North-West Home Counties and West Midlands.
