Student block planned for York

Plans for a 258-bedroom student accommodation scheme in York are about to be submitted by S Harrison Developments.

The £12m scheme would be built on a derelict site in Hungate, opposite the multi-storey car park.

Designs drawn up by architect Crease Strickland Parkins have gone out on public display, and will be submitted to city of York council later this month. If approved, the building would be ready for occupancy in autumn 2013.

Chris Hale, S Harrison’s design manager, said: “Despite marketing by the owners and their agents, there has been no interest in this site as a location for office development. There is little prospect of that changing, so the site remains a derelict eyesore. We hope that by building new homes for students we will help stimulate further development and the completion of the nearby Hungate site.”
