Plans have been lodged by developer Gilltown for a 209-bed student digs on a former archaeological site in the centre of Newcastle.
A number of significant finds were made on the site on Clavering Place in 2007. The site is now vacant, but a previous plan to build on the site led to an excavation, with Durham University acquiring the unearthed items.
Owners Buccleugh secured planning on the site of the former Bemco offices and a former a listed chapel, but that development was shelved during the recession.
Architects Intersect submitted the plans, which are due for consideration by Newcastle city council in spring.
