Successful companies are gender-balanced, BlackRock finds

Gender-balanced companies outperformed their male-dominated peers by as much as two percentage points annually between 2013 and 2022, a BlackRock study has found.

The higher return on assets held true within countries and sectors.

The global study of about 1,250 big companies, based on the MSCI World index, is one of the largest assessments of the links between gender equity and performance ever conducted.

Companies in the middle quintile for gender balance reported an average annual return on assets of 7.7%, compared with 5.6% for those with the highest share of men in their workforce and 6.1% for those with the highest share of women, the study found.
