Regeneration specialist Summix has acquired a 15.5-acre site in Edinburgh for mixed-use development.
The deal comes two years after plans by developer Osborne+Co and build-to-rent firm Moda Living fell through.
The site in Maybury, to the west of the city, was previously owned and used by Spanish paper and cardboard company Saica, which relocated to a purpose-built facility in Livingston in 2022.
The site has been identified in the Edinburgh City Plan 2030 as capable of delivering almost 1,100 new homes for the city. The project has an estimated GDV of £350m.
Stuart Black, development director at Summix, said: “It provides an opportunity to redevelop one of the last pieces of brownfield land in the city into a mixed-use community.
“We look forward to engaging with the community and other key stakeholders on our proposals for the site in due course.”
Ben Brough, head of development at Savills, which advised Saica on the deal, said: “Edinburgh is on a growth trajectory and Summix’s aspirations chime with the council’s vision to transform the west of the capital into a high-density, mixed-use extension to the city with a focus on placemaking, sustainability and connectivity.”
Scarlett Land & Development acted for Summix.
