Regeneration specialist Summix Capital has submitted a planning application for a mixed-use development including 400 homes on a brownfield site at Central Quay, Glasgow.
The plans are for a vacant 4.43-acre site adjacent to the 80,000 sq ft office building at 2 Central Quay and would continue the regeneration of the Clyde riverside.
As well as 400 homes for private sale, the plans include student accommodation and space for food and beverage and retail uses.
The development site, formerly the Harland & Wolffe Finnieston Diesel Engine Works, has been derelict for more than 50 years.
The design of the new neighbourhood is aiming to meet recognised net zero carbon standards in operation. It includes features to reduce embodied carbon through its choice of materials, plus extensive use of renewable energy and sustainable urban drainage. Biodiversity will be improved through planting and green spaces featuring roof gardens, children’s play areas and a public plaza.
The site already has planning permission in principle for a mixed-use development. This includes offices, residential, a hotel and associated ground-floor commercial uses with access, parking, landscaping and associated works.
The architects on the project are 3Dreid, Graeme Nicholls Architects. Turley is acting as planning consultant.
