Sun Alliance has sold Croome Estate, in the Severn Vale between Tewkesbury and Worcester for nearly £15m. The Society of Merchant Ventures of Bristol bought the 2,832.9ha (7,000 acre) estate – Britain’s biggest single farmland sale this year.
It includes 16 farms, 59 houses and cottages, sporting and gravel extraction rights and forestry. The sale has allayed the fears of some experts who had forecast a drop of 10% in land prices next year because of the beef crisis and EU subsidy cuts.
