More than 200 owners of luxury homes are paying an annual tax of £218,200 to retain their privacy.
The government introduced the tax on houses and apartments owned by corporate entities in 2013. HM Revenue and Customs data show the government received £44m on homes worth £20m or more through the annual tax on enveloped dwellings in the last financial year.
Privacy is more important than paying the tax for many people, Jamie Morrison, a partner at accountancy firm HW Fisher, said.
