Supermarket and hotel development get go-ahead in Egham

Albemarle Egham has won planning permission for a £35m hotel and supermarket scheme in Egham, Surrey.

The developer, a consortium including Liberty Properties, plans to build a 30,000 sq ft Waitrose store and 80-room Travelodge hotel as part of the scheme, designed by Lyons+Sleeman+Hoare.

The proposals were given the go-ahead by Runnymede Borough council on 5 August.

Ian Mayhead, principal planner at Savills, which advised Albemarle Egham, said: “There was a lot of support for the supermarket but some concerns from residents, which we were able to address prior to the committee meeting, and that was acknowledged by committee members on the night.

“This scheme will significantly enhance the retail offering in the town and provide much-needed hotel accommodation in the area.”
