Up to 15 support staff jobs are under threat at Chesterton’s Birmingham office as part of an efficiency drive which includes the outsourcing of its IT needs.
Bill Heaney, company secretary at Chesterton, said: “We have consulted a number of staff on efficiency improvement proposals. Regrettably these could lead to around 15 redundancies over the next six months in support services in Birmingham.”
It was announced internally this week that Chesterton is outsourcing its nationwide IT functions. However, Heaney added that eight new staff will be recruited in Birmingham to serve clients on a local basis: “The efficiency proposals will build on our investment in state of the art and Y2K compliant IT systems for client administration. These will enable the administration to be brought closer to the client.”
l Adam Serfontein, director-in-charge of Chestertons Newcastle office, has joined local property company Hanro, writes Mark Simmons.
Serfontein, who had been with Chesterton for 12 years, will concentrate on acquiring investments for Hanro. David Furness, who moved back to his native North East three years ago, has been appointed as the new director-in-charge in Newcastle. Chris Pearson will move up from London to take on Serfontein’s office and investment work.
