For once, surveyors had a good excuse to go to the pub early. The ninth annual Property Chef of the Year competition, co-sponsored by Davis Coffer Lyons and EG, took place last month in restaurant chain Geronimo Inns’ The Phoenix pub in Victoria, SW1.
Peter Wright, executive chef of Geronimo Inns, put the 18 competitors through their paces in the kitchen, while The Phoenix general manager Ben Kirkman took charge in the bar.
For the first of three rounds, Wright asked the wannabe cooks to prepare a risotto. Contestants could choose between two base ingredients and two herbs.
The second round saw the agents ponder over a quiz.
And for the third, Adnams business development manager Dominic Metcalfe hosted a beer taste test.
The final cook-off between CB Richard Ellis, Shelley Sandzer and Christie + Co copied BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen, with the agents having to prepare a three-egg omelette.
The winning chefs were CBRE’s Seb Howard and Jason Grant.
