Henderson Global Investors’ UK Outlet Mall Fund has received planning consent for the development of more than 50,000 sq ft of new retail and leisure at its Swindon Designer Outlet centre in Wiltshire.
The £35m development includes the regeneration of the historic Long Shop, built in 1874 as part of the Grade II-listed Great Western Railway Works, which will become part of the 207,000 sq ft centre. Approved plans also include the addition of 30 shops and five restaurants.
Henrik Madsen, managing director at McArthurGlen, which manages the centre, said: “Now that the planning application for the regeneration of the Long Shop has been successfully received and approved, we can begin the process of significantly extending our retail space, in particular bringing in more of the most sought-after brand names and to provide a truly inspiring restaurant offering.”
