Targetfollow seeks exclusive rights to Baskerville scheme

Ardeshir Naghshineh’s Targetfollow has approached Birmingham council regarding securing exclusivity on the redevelopment of its Baskerville Wharf site in Birmingham city centre.

The developer plans to jointly develop the five acres surrounding its Baskerville House office scheme into a mixed-use scheme.

The Baskerville Wharf development would have a canal-side location linking Centenary Square and Cambridge Street to Farmer Locks.

It would also form a major part of the proposed regeneration of the city’s west side, alongside developments such as Arena Central, The New Library of Birmingham and Dandara’s V Building.

The council’s cabinet will decide next Monday whether to enter into an exclusivity agreement with Targetfollow.

If approved, the scheme would be built on a site entirely owned by Targetfollow and the council, with the local authority retaining the freehold ownership of the land. Targetfollow would be granted a long leasehold of the site before work could commence.

The development site includes the existing Brindley Drive multi-storey car park, the Cambrian Halls of Residence, the Flapper Public House and other shared ownerships.

Targetfollow has appointed a project team including architects Feilden Clegg Bradley and urban designers Martha Schwartz.

If an exclusivity agreement is approved, a planning application will be submitted in 2009.
