Tarmac and Sheffield council in £25m city centre regeneration plan

Tarmac Construction and Sheffield Council have unveiled plans to regenerate the Castlegate area of the city. The scheme, projected to cost £25m, involves redeveloping Sheffield’s Sheaf market and Castle market.

The scheme will provide a 500-space multi-storey car park with a covered market square on its top deck. This will be linked to a completely rebuilt Sheaf market building. The Sheaf market redevelopment will incorporate the Castle Market, so freeing the existing Castle Market site for mixed-use redevelopment.

Sheffield architect Crampin & Ping has won the contract to design the redevelopment. Tarmac has yet to appoint agents.
