Tax authorities have claimed an alpine villa owned by Signa founder René Benko as security on eight years of unpaid taxes.
The co-owner of Selfridges is at risk of losing his luxury villa after Austrian tax officials placed a €12.1m lien, a form of security interest, against the property in Igls, near Innsbruck, where he lives with his family.
A representative for Benko rejected claims that he had failed to pay taxes on the property.
