Taylor Wimpey frozen out for a month by extreme cold

Britain’s third-biggest housebuilder said that the Beast from the East knocked out nearly a month of building work in February and March after it became too cold to lay bricks, causing a slowdown in sales.

Taylor Wimpey said that its sales rate in the first four months of the year had dropped to 0.85 homes per sales outlet per week, down from 0.93 a year earlier.

This sent the shares down 2¾p, or 1.5%, to 190p.

But it said that it remained on track to meet its expectations for the full year, with demand holding up. It is likely to complete more new homes in the second half of the year than in previous years., according to the Telegraph.
