Taylor Wimpey hails homebuyer help

The government’s mortgage guarantee scheme should help the entire housing market, Taylor Wimpey has said.

The housebuilder’s boss, Pete Redfern, said that support for purchases of existing homes was also helpful for new properties.

Banks have proven reluctant to apply the government’s new guarantee scheme to new homes. The scheme, which supports 95% loan-to-value mortgages, began on Monday.

Taylor Wimpey added that demand for its homes was at the highest level for two decades.
