Taylor Wimpey to sell fewer homes as it focuses on profit

Taylor Wimpey plans to sell fewer homes this year as it seeks to beef up margins.

The housebuilder sold a record 16,042 homes last year but has said that volumes would be lower as it focused on “capturing value”.

Profit margins fell to 19.6% in 2019, from 21.6% a year earlier, as prices remained flat at around £305,000 while build costs rose by around 4.5%.

Taylor Wimpey has the largest land bank of any listed housebuilder, with over 140,000 plots, 76,000 of which have some form of planning consent and 36,800 are ready to be developed.
