TBI has told EGi News that it plans to develop a business park at Belfast Interntaional Airport, once the deal to acquire the 364.23ha (900 acre) airport is completed on August 13. Yesterday, TBI announced that it had exchanged contracts to buy the airport for £72.4m and take on its £28m debt.
Belfast International Airport has 80.94ha (200 acres) of undeveloped land. TBI Director of Operations, Terry Steele, commented: “There’s business park potential and certainly it is a real possibility. We also want to develop the air freight side of the airport.” He said that development plans will be announced once the deal to acquire the airport is sealed.
Steele confirmed that TBI is in detailed negotiations to acquire Coventry Airport and wants to buy others. “We are after up to a dozen regional airports because they are a cash-generative, asset-built business,” he explained.
