Developer TCN UK has unveiled plans to transform an historic Birmingham office building.

The firm is to refurbish and redevelop the site of the Grade II listed Assay Building, located in the heart of the city’s Jewellery Quarter.

Refurbishment works will start on the 33,000 sq ft building this month and will be sensitive to the architectural characteristics of the building. TCN is hoping to attract firms from the creative and knowledge industries.

TCN has also received planning consent to build 32 flats to the rear of the building.

TCN acquired the Victorian building in May 2014 from the Birmingham Assay Office, which had occupied the building on Newall Street since 1878. Completion of the office refurbishment is expected in spring 2016.
