Team on board for naval regen plan

Plymouth city council has appointed an agent to help it unlock a new mixed-use development at the Devonport Naval Base.

Alder King will help the council, alongside LHC Architects and Ward Williams Associates, to draw up plans to redevelop South Yard.

Plans for the 18.6-acre site include homes and nearly 350,000 sq ft of manufacturing space.

The planning of the South Yard project will be overseen by Dale Evans, partner in Alder King’s Bristol team. He said: “This is one of the most ambitious regeneration projects in the South West and will give a vital boost to the local economy, with new investment and the creation of much-needed jobs and housing.”

A planning application is expected to be submitted by the end of the year. Subject to consent, the site will be transferred from the naval base to the council in March 2015.
