LISTEN: Tech firms ‘export their culture’

computer-workers-THUMB.jpegMIPIM UK 2015: The tech industry has defined a design aesthetic and a work culture that have fed into other industries, according to C&W’s Juliette Morgan.

Morgan, global tech lead at C&W and head of property at Tech City UK, spoke at the Expectations of Tech Space event at MIPIM UK, at which industry experts suggested that working in a high-quality, modern working environment has become synonymous with employees feeling valued by corporations.

Patrick Nelson, vice president of real estate at WeWork, said companies would adopt some of the WeWork methods.

“The biggest distinction in the category is people who are excited about working in a new way, in an enjoyable environment that encourages interaction. And larger companies are seeing the benefits. If their employees are happier in their space, the organisation will benefit,” he said.

Morgan added: “It’s not about networking, it’s about network and this is the key difference. These are workspaces in which people are building their companies, so join in but know how to turn it off as well. These are places where people work.”
