Tenants on a housing estate in Hoxton, London, face eviction before Christmas after the new owners rescinded a deal to delay huge rent rises.
The New Era estate was bought this year by Westbrook Partners, which passed management of the homes to the Benyon Estate, co-owned by Conservative MP Richard benign and run by his brother. On Friday, the Benyons announced that they were pulling out, as they were ‘not welcome’.
Westbrook has now said that it is not willing to honour a deal made by Benyon not to raise rents until 2016. It plans to renovate the estate and rent all the properties at market rates.
