Terrace Hill Group is on the verge of securing planning consent for two new supermarket developments.
The UK development and investment company has received a minded-to-grant recommendation for a Sainsbury’s supermarket at Riverside Road in Sunderland and an Asda supermarket in Skelton, East Cleveland.
Both applications have been referred to the Department for Communities and Local Government, where they will be determined by the end of this month.
Construction on the Sunderland supermarket, which is prelet to Sainsbury’s, is expected to begin mid 2012, with the store opening in spring 2013. The store will offer 60,000 sq ft of sales area, a petrol filling station and 537 parking spaces.
The planning recommendation at Skelton follows last month’s announcement of a 25 year prelet to Asda. The development will comprise a new supermarket with a net sales area of 25,000 sq ft with 239 car spaces and a petrol station.
Construction is due to begin in the first quarter of 2012 and the store will be open by the end of 2012.
