Terrace Hill kicks off Bishop Auckland stadium scheme

Terrace Hill has gained consent for a 150,000 sq ft leisure, retail and stadium scheme on the site of the former Warner Electrics factory in Tindale Crescent, Bishop Auckland, in the North East.

The County Durham development will regenerate land vacant and derelict since the closure of Warner in 2003.

The 150,000 sq ft leisure and retail park will include a 60,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s food store, a 58,000 sq ft leisure complex comprising a six-screen, 1,000-seat multiplex cinema along with a bingo hall and 10-pin bowling alley, two restaurants including a drive-through facility.

The stadium will house Northern Premier League football team Bishop Auckland FC. The scheme will include car parking, hard and soft landscaping and highways works to provide better access both to this site and adjoining land ownerships.

The scheme will now go to the Government Office for the North East for approval.

The stadium is expected to be ready in time for the 20010-11 season, when Bishop Auckland FC will play its first home fixture since 2002.
