Terrace Hill/ Sainsbury’s get Cornish go-ahead

Terrace Hill and Sainsbury’s have been granted planning permission for the development of a new food store and filling station in Helston, Cornwall.

Construction of the 55,000 sq ft Helston store is expected to start in the New Year with completion by early 2010.

The development will be based on land formerly used as an overspill car park for a local theme park.

Construction is anticipated to start on the Helston store in the New Year, with completion due in early 2010.

It is the second planning gain in a month for Terrace Hill in partnership with Sainsbury’s, following the go-ahead for a 150,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme anchored by a 60,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s store in Bishop Auckland, Durham.

Terrace Hill director Duncan McEwan said: “This development will provide Helston with a number of benefits including an increased retail offer, an improved transport infrastructure in the area as well as turning around unused land.

“This is the second scheme where we have successfully gained planning consent in conjunction with Sainsbury’s in the last month, and shows that despite the current economic climate there is still appetite for new, high quality sites amongst large corporate occupiers.”

Terrace Hill and Sainbury’s were advised by planning consultants White Young Green.
