Tesco finance arm chooses Glasgow for service centre

Tesco Personal Finance is to open a customer service centre in Glasgow with help from a £5m grant from the Scottish government.

It recently move into headquarters next to Edinburgh’s Haymarket railway station.

The supermarket group plans to open bank branches in 30 stores this year.

Elsewhere in the banking world, The Guardian’s Viewpoint column bemoans a lack of a coherent explanation from Lloyds Banking Group about its reversal of plans to close Cheltenham & Gloucester’s branches.

The writer speculates that it must have been to do with fears about what Brussels might demand in return for state aid.
