Tesco ponders competition probe appeal

Tesco is considering appealing against the Competition Commission’s investigation into the UK grocery sector.

Jerry Hausman, professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has produced evidence claiming to show that the conclusion that consumers in areas dominated by one particular retailer were losing out was “not robust”.

It would be the first appeal of a markets investigation heard by the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Tesco has until Monday to lodge the appeal.
