Tesco has announced shock plans to quit its Cheshunt HQ as it attempts to recover from a disastrous 2014.
The UK’s biggest grocer plans to vacate the 130,000 sq ft Tesco House, its Hertfordshire head office since 1973, and consolidate staff in Welwyn Garden City in 2016.
Chief executive Dave Lewis also announced the retailer would close 43 unprofitable shops and scrapped plans for 49 new stores.
Most of the closures will be Tesco Express outlets, Lewis said.
The recovery plan came as Tesco delivered a slight improvement in like-for-like sales of 2.9% over the Christmas period.
