Tesco set for Harrogate

Tesco could be poised to gain a presence in the last remaining mainland postcode without one of its full-sized stores.

Harrogate, north Yorkshire, councillors have voted in favour of a Tesco supermarket. The group still needs approval from the head of planning and the backing of the Health and Safety Executive which could ask for a public inquiry into the proposed store on  derelict gasworks site. Elsewhere, upmarket food retailer EH Booth has decided to accelerate expansion and Waitrose will reopen in Canary Wharf, in London’s Docklands, today with a non-food presence.
