Tesco shrinks Goodmayes resi plans following public push-back

Tesco and Weston Homes have lodged a planning application for 1,280 homes to be developed on an old supermarket site in Goodmayes, north-east London.

Plans for the 10.4-acre site, at 822 High Road, include 35% affordable homes.

A new Tesco store, a primary school, commercial space, and 7.9 acres of landscaped grounds are also planned.

Under original plans for the development, 1,400 homes were going to be built, but this number has been reduced to 1,280 following consultation with the local community. The main residential tower will now be shorter and thinner to reduce its visual impact.

Plans to provide car parking for the scheme has also been revised. Around 30% of the new car parking to be built was planned for residents of the new homes, but this has been reduced to 25%.

The number of car parking spaces for the new Tesco store has also been reduced by 30 spaces.

Highway improvement works will also be developed, including a new bus lane, pedestrian and cycle access and a wider highway.
